Welcome to the third and fourth grade math enrichment site!! We are off to a great start this year. Third and fourth graders are using their menu choices to challenge their math skills. We are using problem solving skills, critical thinking and also developing fluency skills with our math facts. I will send home their math menu work at the end of each month so you can see what great work they have done. We follow the math curriculum that is being done in the classroom and take learning to new levels so that your child is challenged and can do great math problem solving work!!! Sept. 10-21: We will be working on rounding, adding and subtracting three digit numbers and also place value understanding. We have some really great challenging choices for our menu which I will send home when these math concepts are mastered.
This month, we are following our math pacing guide and the menu I created for these skills. I sent the folders home last night, so you could review your child's work. You will be getting info on the first four standards work by the end of Sept. 28th.
Week of October 8th: We have started our new menu's. 4th graders have been given their work from Sept. to take home. I will be sending out the 3rd grade work by Monday, the 15th. We will be working in the lib. hallway due to the book fair this coming week! Ask students about prime and composite numbers!!
Week of Oct. 15th: Third graders are working on patterns and our new menu choices. Fourth graders are doing multiplicative sentences and also menu choices. We have introduces prime and composite numbers and factors and multiples!!
Week of Oct. 22: This week is third grade testing on Monday and Tuesday. Fourth graders are working on multiplicative comparisons and and factors and multiples.
Week of Nov. 5th: We are wrapping up our old menu's and starting our November ones. 3rd graders are working on division and multiplication skills and solving multi-step story problems. They are taking great challenges with their work. The fourth graders did some escape room breakouts to sharpen their math skills. They are also interpreting what remainders mean with division and enjoying logic math challenges!
Week of Nov. 12th: 3rd grade is focusing on arrays to explain multiplication and division. We have a November menu we are working on also. 4th grade did an escape room and developed some great problem solving skills in the process. We are also working on our November menu.
Week of Dec. 3: Wow, how the year if flying by!! We are doing our multiplication and division work work on 3rd grade menus and 4th grade did an escape room. Menu work is being done and the students are loving the logic puzzlers. We will be planning a walking field trip real soon!!
Week of Dec. 10-17 We are wrapping up our December menu's and having fun with our PBL's. Great work on our grid game kids!! Coming up will be our walking field trip to Tim Hortons to use math in the real world!!
Week of January 7! We have started our new menu's and are enjoying the new challenges. 4th graders are creating a menu challenge for the third graders on our field trip to Tim Horton's. Welcome Back!!
Week of January 14th: Our third graders are working on types of graphs and how to interpret these graphs. Fourth graders are entering the world of lines and angles and will be using these skills in a project of their choice.
Week of Jan. 28th: we are starting fractions in 3rd grade and geometry in fourth grade. The weather has not allowed us to do our walking field trip, but we hope to do that in the near future!!
Week of Feb. 11th We are digging deep into our menu choices and wrapping up our geometry study. Post tests will be given by end of the week. Fourth grade will be moving into our study of fractions. Third grade will also.
Week of Feb. 25th. Third grade is making progress fractions and comparing them, making equivalent fractions as well. Fourth grade is adding and subtracting like and unlike denominators.
Week of March 11th: We are now working with our March menus. Our latest Ohio Math league was completed and students did great problem solving! Congratulations to Joey McMillen who won the fourth grade contest!!
Week of March18th: We are completing our menus and doing some fantastic fractions games!!
Week of April 8th: Welcome back from Spring break!! Our new menu's are started and we are doing some great math escape rooms in 4th grade. I will be sending some pre-assessments home for both grade levels.
Week of April 15th. We are now doing some math challenges with fractions in both grade levels. Kids are really taking the challenge and doing some great math.
Week of April 29th. Testing is now history and we move on with our last menu board. We will be doing our walking field trip soon. I will send a note home soon!!
Week of May 6 & 13th: We had a fantastic walking field trip to Hortons. Our math problem was unique and a good challenge for all. We are wrapping up our work and heading towards a great finish!!
